Getting started
- Install the app. Motion Glass is coming soon to the Mac App Store. Follow @MotionGlassApp or check motion.glass for the release.
- Check the requirements. macOS 26 or later on an Apple silicon (M-series) Mac. No external GPU or render farm is needed.
- Add an API key. Open Motion Glass → Settings →
Providers (
⌘,) and paste an Anthropic or OpenAI API key. Create one at console.anthropic.com or platform.openai.com. Keys are stored in the macOS Keychain and are only sent to the provider you chose. - Import a song. Create a project and choose an audio file (mp3, m4a, wav or flac). It is copied into the project and analyzed on-device — nothing is uploaded.
- Describe the video. Write a prompt or pick a style preset, choose a model and aspect ratio, check the estimated AI cost, then generate.
- Review, revise, render. Inspect the storyboard and timeline, render a preview, then export a 1080p or 4K master. Procedural sound design is enabled by default and can be toggled per render.
Troubleshooting
The app says my API key is invalid
Check that the key is active in the provider’s console and that you pasted the
whole key without spaces. If you use a proxy or gateway, confirm the base URL
override in Settings → Providers starts with https://. A key from one
provider cannot be used for the other; add one per provider you want to use.
Generation is blocked by my budget cap
The app refuses to start a generation whose estimate would exceed your remaining budget. Raise or clear the cap in Settings → Costs, or reset the project ledger if you are starting a new video.
Do I need my own API key?
Yes. Motion Glass does not include an AI key. You need an Anthropic or OpenAI account and API key to generate creative plans; you pay that provider directly for what you generate. Rendering runs locally, so previews don’t cost extra AI tokens.
Rendering a 4K master is slow
Masters use supersampling for quality; previews are much faster. Render a preview first to check the edit, and export the master once you are happy. Rendering runs locally, so it does not consume tokens or add to your AI bill.
Where are my projects stored?
Inside the app’s sandboxed container, managed by the app. Use the app’s Show in Finder actions to reveal a project or a render. Exports go wherever you choose in the save dialog.
The app won’t open or import my audio file
Confirm you are on macOS 26 or later on an Apple silicon Mac. For imports, use the file picker so the app gets permission to read the file; files on unplugged external volumes or in some cloud folders can be unreadable. Unsupported codecs are reported with an error rather than a silent failure.
Does it work offline?
Audio analysis and rendering work offline. Generating a creative plan needs a connection to your AI provider. The bundled model catalog keeps the app usable offline, and a cached catalog is used when a refresh fails.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
